Avocados are a delicious superfood that’s packed with healthy fats, fiber, and nutrients. There’s nothing better than avocado toast for breakfast but how much avocado is “too much?” Let’s find out.
Can I eat an avocado every day?
Even though avocados are extremely good for you, that doesn’t mean you can eat an unlimited amount of them and consider it healthy (just like any other food). But, you can definitely eat an avocado every day as long as you’re getting a variety of other foods into your diet! Clevland Clinic says that 1/2 – 1 avocado every day is totally reasonable.
What happens if you eat too much avocado?
Since avocados are a high-fat and satisfying food, it is difficult to truly eat too much avocado. But if you truly overeat avocados, don’t worry. Nothing adverse will happen unless a large portion of your daily diet is avocados… in which you might be deficient in other nutrients because you’re not getting a variety of foods in.
What are the disadvantages of eating avocado?
Avocado contains types of carbohydrates that can be difficult to digest. In addition to that, eating too much avocado in one sitting may cause bloating. As stated before, 1/2 – 1 avocado per day is perfectly fine but if you notice stomach issues when eating avocados, you should experiment with limiting consumption.
Do avocados make you gain weight?
The idea that one food can make you gain weight is a myth. Weight gain is caused by a consistent caloric surplus (consistently consuming more calories than you’re burning). Avocados are a higher calorie food but they’re satisfying and have tons of vitamins and minerals. To avoid weight gain, make sure your portion sizes are relative to what you need and don’t overeat throughout the day. Avocados themselves do not directly cause weight gain.
Bottom Line
A reasonable amount of avocados to eat in a week is between 3 and 7. If you’re going above that amount, just make sure you’re getting a variety of foods into your diet. Avocados are healthy, high in good fats, and high in fiber but it’s important that you include other foods into your diet as well. We can’t eat avocado toast for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day but I wish we could!
Avocado toast recipes you MUST try
